How to Budget a First Clothing Collection
Budget the complete landed project, not only the garment unit price.
What brands need to know
A first collection budget should include development, bulk garments, quantity tolerance, labels, packaging, sample freight, bulk freight, insurance, duty, tax, photography, e-commerce and contingency. Too many styles and colours divide purchasing power and trigger more material minimums. Shared fabrics, trims and colour families make the first order more efficient. Reserve working capital because the standard TGM payment structure is 50% deposit and 50% before shipment.
Production checklist
- Calculate landed cost
- Limit initial styles and colours
- Allow production tolerance
- Keep contingency for revisions and freight
How this affects your quotation
A reliable quotation depends on the final design, construction, fabric, GSM, colours, size range, quantity per style and colour, branding, packing, delivery country and target date. Commercial feasibility and material availability are reviewed before a price is confirmed.
