Garment Measurement Tolerances

Textile products need realistic tolerances tied to material and construction.

What brands need to know

Fabric movement, cutting, sewing, pressing and washing create normal dimensional variation. A tolerance sets the permitted difference from the specification at each point of measure. Critical fitted dimensions may require tighter control than noncritical lengths, but unrealistic zero tolerance increases rejection without improving wear. TGM generally works with approximately ±1–2 cm measurement tolerance depending on the point, fabric and construction. The exact table should be agreed in the tech pack.

Production checklist

  • Set tolerance per measurement point
  • Measure with one agreed method
  • Condition garments before checking
  • Separate critical and noncritical points

How this affects your quotation

A reliable quotation depends on the final design, construction, fabric, GSM, colours, size range, quantity per style and colour, branding, packing, delivery country and target date. Commercial feasibility and material availability are reviewed before a price is confirmed.
